Getting the right mix at Little Kelham

23 March 2017

We want Kelham businesses to thrive

One of the key considerations when planning a development such as Little Kelham is finding the right mix. We think the best, most successful neighbourhoods and sustainable communities are diverse, thriving, evolving places.

When it comes to planning the residential side of Little Kelham, we didn’t just design a block of apartments and replicate it across the site. The right mix means having different types of houses and apartments for everyone from professional couples, to families, to downsizers, to students and friends. We have four bed family homes, one-bed houses, houses with gardens, houses with garages, new build homes and those which use the beautiful existing architecture.

But the same considerations apply when it comes to the commercial side of things. Kelham Island has always been a place of work, and while the same level of heavy industry won’t return to the area, we want to do all we can to make sure businesses thrive and importantly, enhance the community.

We’re now at a stage where available commercial space at Little Kelham is just around the corner. Eagle Works and Green Lane Works are both being renovated, while the foundation slab for the new Wedge Building has been laid ahead of the main structure being built.

We’ve tried to make sure Little Kelham has something for all types of business – from large, established, expanding companies to newer ventures with a smaller team. As well as offices and studios, the retail space will allow shops, cafes and restaurants to flourish and serve the community.

Eagle Works, with its large footprint, will provide beautiful office and creative space with great natural light owing to the windows on both sides. There’ll also be retail space on the lower floors. Throughout Eagle Works, the character and charm of the building will remain.

We’ll also have office space in Green Lane Works as well as office and retail space in the new Wedge Building. We’re looking for businesses who will buy into the Little Kelham ethos and really become part of the community – both other businesses and residents.
